THE 37th ANNUAL GOLDENSTATES

Defense, Defense! John Zappia will be defending his National title at the Goldenstates .

ROUND 2 - AUSTRALIAN TOP DOORSLAMMER
AND ROUND 3 AUSTRALIAN TOP BIKE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Friday 14th November & Saturday 15th November 2008
They are back... bigger, better and nastier than ever before as the Australian Top Doorslammer Championship and Australian Top Bike Championship hits Perth Motorplex for two great days of ANDRA Championship Drag Racing.

With full fields in both Top Doorslammer and Top Bike just qualifying will be a feat in itself making Friday nights qualifying a show within a show.

New faces in new cars, old faces in new cars will be the norm as the Top Doorslammers converge on the ultra quick Kwinana Beach track.

The annual Goldenstates produces some of the quickest, fastest and closest Top Doorslammer racing each season with the late Autumn sun warming the track while the cool ocean breezes bring with them oxygen rich air allowing crew chiefs to produce copius amounts of horse power setting the scene for some of the best Drag Racing action of the season.

Defending champion WA's own John Zappia is determined to start off his title defence in the best way possible in front of his home town crowd.

But he will not have it all his own way with fellow West Australian Robin Judd having reset the National record at the Winternationals in the shadows waiting to strike along with one of the most formidableinterstate fields ever assembled in Perth.

Making the long haul West will be the Castrol team of Victor and Ben Bray complete with new livery with Matt Able from the Northern Territory in tow.

Fellow Queenslander and ex Top Doorslammer champion Gary Phillips will again be at the Perth Motorplex in the Lucas Oil Studebaker determined not only to pick up valuable championship points but also hoping that the renown November conditions at the Kwinana Beach facility will be there for his assault on his first ever 5 second run.

For Perth fans it will be the appearance of the Wild Willys of New South Welshman Sean Mifsud that will be the icing on the Goldenstates cake.

Mifsud has made significant in roads since bringing legendary US tuner Camp Stanley on board with solid qualifying performances and an event win at Willowbank Raceway.

Current joint points leader (sharing the lead with Ben Bray) is Deno Brijeski who is bringing the All Over Cranes Camaro to the round with a brand new paint job (as if the last coat of paint wasn't already spectaular!).

Brijeski has already recorded some of the fastest speeds ever in Top Doorslammer and his take no prisoners style of racing is certain to entertain the crowd.

Victorian Peter Kapiris has also become a serious contender with east coasts alcohol tuner extraordinaire Mark Brew throwing the tune ups into the Batmobile.

The event is already shaping up to be a tuners event...US's Stanley versus East Coasts Brew versus West Coasts Rowland versus THE REST!

AND THAT IS JUST TOP DOORSLAMMER!

Have we mentioned Top Bike? Another oversubscribed field with a healthy contingient of West Aussies - Mark Drew, Jay Upton, Ian ashelford and Syd Standring waiting at the border to take on the Interstaters of Dennis Grant (SA), father and son duo of Phil and Sam Parker (Vic) and Neville Smith from Queensland.

But if they think it is an all Aussie cake walk - they haven't taken into consideration the Flying Kiwi - Athol Williams who has been in outstanding form with low 65 second passes being the order of the day.

On paper it looks to be Williams in the box seat for the win...but as they say Drag Racing is not raced on paper!

With over 220 Drag Racing teams converging on the Perth Motorplex it means there is only one place to be on Friday the 14 and Saturday 15th - and that is the Perth Motorplex for some high speed sedan racing and some wild Top Bike action!

No matter which way you look at the famous '57 Chev with it's new paint...

It looks great!

They must have had some paint left over after dads car got a lick...as Bens car got a new paint job too!

5 seconds at Willowbank - check!

5 seconds at Western Sydney - check!

Now for a 5 second pass at his home track is what Robin Judd wants! (oh...and a win would be nice too!)

The father part of the Parker duo - Phil will be back along with Sam and his US built ride which looks a little like....

...this!

Others keeping the nitro Harleys honest will be New Zealands two wheeled missile Athol Williams with him amazing 6.3 second blasts down the quartermile along with the White Knight Jay Upton whose new combination is starting to show some potential with half track times quicker than John Zappia's when he is on a 5 second pass.

It is now not a case of 'IF' but 'WHEN' will Upton become the first Australian to nail a 5 second time on two wheels.

With only 8 places in each of the fields expect plenty of action as each racer not only tries to make the field but also tries to improve on their qualifying position in readiness for the all important eliminations on Saturday.

It takes a big man to ride a big bike and they do not come much bigger than Queenslands Neville Smith.
