ZAP WINS CHAMPIONSHIP!

West Australian Drag Racing stalwart John Zappia has finally cliched the title that has eluded him in his long and illustrious career...by clinching the Australian Top Doorslammer Championship at the Tin Tops at Willowbank Raceway. Zappia top qualified in the historic first ever 16 car field with a 6.03 - the only driver to record an '0'. In the first round he defeated Ben Bray followed by a second round defeat over fellow West Aussie Robin Judd with an event low ET of 6.01. In the semi final Zappia went down to eventual winner Sean Mifsud in a peddle fest on the cooling track - collecting enough points to give him an unassailable lead going into the final event of the season - the Winternationals. Zappia, one of the pioneers of Top Doorslammer recorded the first 7 second, 6 second and 5 second passes (a world first) in Doorslammers along with numerous National records in a career spanning over 2 decades - but it was the Australian Number 1 that was his holy grail. After being runner up over the past two seasons Zappia has now collected Australian Drag Racings ultimate award. On belhalf of the Perth Motorplex - well done Zap!
