| While many eyes will be on the Queensland Sport Compact duo of Damien McKern
and Scott Weildon at the Pro Auto Performance Hi Tech, local racer Jose Jardim will be working hard to ensure that
eyes are also on his flying red Torana. The only thing is that you will need to be looking to the skies at Jardim as he is renown for pointing the nose of the red rocket skywards. Jardim's Nissan-powered creation can cover the quarter-mile at almost 9-seconds flat and reach 230kmh in that time. It also provides thrilling antics for the crowd. "I will make sure to put on a good show for the crowd" he said. "Big wheelstands, long burnouts and hopefully our first 8-second pass is on the cards". Jardim continued. Even at his relatively young age, Jardim has already owned a number of race cars, though his decision to go 'high tech' with the latest car is a new one. "They have better reliability, low maintenance, plenty of power and it lets you be different", he said. "It's also good to develop my engine building ability". Jardim personally built up the motor to use in the car and has found adapting his driving to a turbocharged car has been a challenge. In my opinion a turbo car is harder to drive due to the steep power curves they usually produce as opposed to the broader power curves of V8s, he said. The Hi Tech Titles event is open to a wide range of street cars, including imported models and local four and six cylinders, rotary powered vehicles and late model V8s. The event will also feature the only West Australian appearances of Damien McKern and Scott Weildon in their 7-second Mazdas. These amazing race cars can reach speeds of 300kmh on the track and with their small size that makes for some wild runs. |
