SPRINTCARS GALORE FOR MAGIC MAN |

|
A monster field of 33 Sprintcars have nominated for the Magic Man. |
| ANOTHER stellar field of sprintcars has nominated for round two of the Watson’s
Express Transport Sprintcar Track Championship at the Perth Motorplex this Saturday night. The field will be headed up by last-round winner and third-generation racer Shaun Bradford who blitzed the opposition in the season-opener just under two weeks ago. Bradford started from 12th in the 25-lap feature race to claim the first round in the prestigious series. Any field that has Ryan Farrell in it is always going to be a good one and Flyan’ Ryan will be back in his silver #95 machine that slipped by Luch Monte for second in the dying stages of the epic feature race. And speaking on Monte, he is also back and will be keen to gain another podium finish, but hopefully higher than the third he ultimately had to settle for. Ken Sartori, now the hired gun in the Kendrick Racing stable looked very fast in the opening meeting but while riding high in turns 1-2 clipped the fence, forcing the crew to carry out some speedy welding and repair work. The car was back on track for the feature race and Sartori did well to steer the ill-handling #92 machine. It is understood that Cool chassis has now been sent off for repairs and Sartori will be in a new car for this weekend. One driver who nominated for the first round but was a no-show is track champion Jamie Maiolo who had an appendix removed. The good news is Maiolo will be back in action this week and keen to get some points on the board for his track title defence. Two cars worth keeping an eye on both on the track and in the pits are the immaculate Hall Transport entries of Greg and David Hall. These guys have been making the long haul from Albany for most Motorplex rounds for a few seasons now which is a commendable effort on its own. But when you have a look at the preparation and presentation put in by these guys you realise how dedicated they are. And speaking of two-car teams it was good to see the formation of another one with Garry Miller driving an identical car to that campaigned by young throttle stomper Kris Coyle. Coyle has been quietly going about his business of learning the sprintcar craft in recent seasons after being a formidable junior sedan driver. He can stand on the gas hard and should be rewarded with some good finishes this season Second-generation ace David Priolo knows what it is like to stand on the podium, claiming a feature race at the Motorplex last summer. If he gets his car into a good position on the track he will again prove to be competitive. And speaking of Davids – David Ellement rolled out his stunning new #12 machine last meeting which created plenty of attention. It almost looked too good to get dirty and unfortunately the team didn’t get it is as dirty as they would have like, suffering mechanical dramas in the debut meeting for the new package. Expect David, along with his very fast qualifying brother in Ben, to both be looking for a top 10 finish in the 30-lap feature race. Another young guy who has been making his mark in sprintcars in recent seasons is Carl Dowling. To help his development he has also competed in the Speedweek part of Wanless World Series Sprintcars and can always be considered a good chance of a top 10. Mark Wells has nominated for this show but given his work commitments it always remains to be seen whether or not he rolls the #21 machine on the Kwinana Beach high banks. Despite not racing as much as others Wells is still capable of striking a win. When you throw in other drivers such as Jason Kendrick, Wayne Russell, Darryl Clayden, Veronica McCann, Mat Muir, Kanne Manuel, Robert Watson, Jodi Waldron, Steven Ford, Troy Lawson, Kye Scroop and Darren Mewett (who looked very good in his first 410ci run at the Motorplex) it is going to be an action-packed night of sprintcar racing. |
