Speedway Track Records Tumble in 2021/22
The 59th Australian Sprintcar Championship at the Perth Motorplex, has been postponed for 2022.
With ongoing border restrictions continuing in Australia and the uncertainty for both competitors and spectators to travel, the difficult decision was made to postpone the originally scheduled February 2022 event.
The AAA Metal Recycling Australian Sprintcar Championship will now be held at the Perth Motorplex in February 2023.
Whilst disappointed in this outcome, it was felt the Australian Championship cannot be a truly fair event without the country open to all states and territories for both competitors and fans to participate.
“We considered moving the Championship to a later date in our calendar, however we determined it would not be the best outcome for all concerned, in part due to our national location and the uncertainty surrounding the WA Government COVID plan. Whilst it is disappointing to postpone the event for two consecutive years, we felt this was the only reasonable outcome to ensure the event is truly and fairly supported.,” said Perth Motorplex Speedway Manager Gavin Migro.
The Sprintcar Control Council of Australia (SCCA), after consultation with its state member clubs, will now investigate an alternate option and venue, to run the 2022 Championship, possibly after Easter.
“We will now focus our attention on investigating a delayed event this year, and will support the Perth Motorplex and SAWA in ensuring a fantastic Australian Sprintcar Title in 2023,” added SCCA President Kathy Kelly.
The AAA Metal Recycling Australian Sprintcar Championship will now be conducted on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th February 2023 at the Perth Motorplex in Western Australia, which will precede the World Series Sprintcars Grand Final.
An announcement will be made shortly on the replacement blue ribbon Perth Motorplex Sprintcar events for February 2022.
