Brad Maiolo won his second straight Scardifields Smash Repairs King of Wings title at Perth Motorplex on Saturday night, claiming the 40-lap Sprintcar feature race from brother Jamie, with Lee Nash third.
Brad started on the front row next to Jason Kendrick in the unique race that featured an infield pitstop after the first 20 laps.
Maiolo dropped back to third in the early stages of the race, but inherited the lead on lap 23 when Kendrick caught a rut in and flipped. David Priolo then tagged the upside down Kendrick car and had a bar on his car pushing on the right rear tyre which officials deemed unsafe, putting an unhappy Priolo on the infield as well.
From that point on Maiolo was able to control the race and finish on top.
“To finish first, first you must finish and it was unfortunate for Kendrick and Priolo,” Maiolo said.
Meanwhile Michael Keen was in front of the pack to win the TW Mechanical 360 Sprintcar feature race, defending from a spirited Mitchell Wormall.
Keen said he had to run close to the wall to get the quickest laps.
“Running up on the wall was good fun but at (a) restart I saw Mitchell starting down the bottom,” he said. “Then he ran high and I went underneath him and cruised on through.”
The Limited Sprintcars victory went to Ben Migro, while Troy Johnson reigned supreme in the Formula 500s.
Johnson was just happy he could keep his Dad satisfied.
“Dad gets pretty excited and if I am not doing well I will be shaking his head saying ‘that was a terrible drive’ but he should be happy now,” he laughed.
