Round two of the Perth Motorplex 2020/2021 Drag Racing Season Championship saw spectacular racing within the Junior ranks as competitors vied for the second spot on the Prestigious Anita Board Perpetual Trophy.

The trophy is presented by West Coast Junior Dragster Association in conjunction with the Board Family and is typically awarded to the winner of the Goldenstates. The trophy will run for the course of what would have been Anita’s career in Junior Dragster racing, and then presented to the Board Family.

This leaves only 7 spots to have the winner’s name etched in history

The winner receives the perpetual trophy, a keepsake and a new addition this year is $250 donated by the Board Family.

The first round of racing proved how sought after this event is, with the first-round winners being within a couple of hundredths of their dial in’s, several reaction times within hundredths of perfect and racers going too hard by red lighting or breaking out.

Round 2 saw three pairs, with Beau Ferguson reaching his very first semi final with a win over seasoned racer Brock Moresby. Lucas Green welded Zara Board to the tree with a 0.002 light, beating Zara who run a 7.973 on a 7.970 dial in. Brodie Zappia rounded out the session with a better reaction time being the difference between him and Jett Martin in the ex-Jack Wasley A/JD.

The semi-final had Brodie testing out his reaction and et for the final with a semi-final bye, and a battle of the B/JD’s between Lucas Green and Beau Ferguson – both Serpentine residents. Lucas’s 0.046 reaction to Beau’s 0.148 had Beau needing to make up the difference, but fell short by .009 at the finish line.

The final pitted travelling buddies and the mentor against the understudy. Lucas Green had never made the semi finals before and was now in his first final. Brodie Zappia was going for 2 from 2 for this season…
Lucas left first with a 0.010 rection with Brodie not too far behind with a 0.043. At the stripe Brodie had run 7.982 on a 7.980, however the start line proved to be the difference with Lucas’s 8.721 on an 8.690 earning him the win by 0.0003.

Lots of cheers from the other Juniors who were lined up watching, start line celebrations and a shoey and shoulder ride for first time winner Lucas followed.

The trophy presentations and awarding of the Anita Board Memorial Trophy was met with huge cheers from the crowd with wonderful speeches by both Brodie and Lucas. Lucas was very humble in his speech thanking his sponsors, fellow racers and especially the Board Family.

All the racers will be back on Saturday the 12th of December at the Perth Motorplex for the Outlaw Nitro Challenge this Saturday!
