TOM Hooper is expected to be one of the drivers to watch when the first round of the Alltools Formula 500 track championship is contested at the Perth Motorplex this Saturday night.
The Formula 500s will be part of a massive Grand Opening Showdown that also includes the Wormall Civil Sprintcars, Late Models, Pool Shop Group Speedcars and Harris Engines Wingless Sprints.
After showing some promising signs two years ago the lanky racer from Merredin put it altogether to win last season’s track championship.
The points battle went down to the wire in what proved to be a battle of the boys from the Wheatbelt with Hooper finishing just ahead of Troy Johnson from Kellerberrin.
Not only did Hooper win the track championship but he also won the WA Championship that was contested in Bunbury.
It’s going to be a big season at the Motorplex for this division with one of the highlights being the WA Championship on the weekend of February 26-27 (part of the World Series Sprintcars Grand Final).
Twenty drivers have nominated for the season opener with other notable inclusions being Matt Brown, Chris Dymock, Adrian Haywood, Luke and Jamie Nardini, Shane Andersson and Mark House.
