From the get-go Jason Kendrick was on a mission in the 20-lap preliminary feature race at the DiCandilo Steel City Australian 360 Sprintcar Championship at the Perth Motorplex on Friday night.
He started on the outside of Jamie Veal for the final and after going very wide at the start of the race, set up a commanding lead, to win the final from Cameron Gessner and Jamie Veal.
The race was two laps old when Taylor Milling tagged the back of David Hall on the back straight before running across the front of him and flipping in pits bend, also putting Hall out.
Tom Hooper did well to avoid the incident by the same couldn’t be said for Jason Pryde who spun to avoid major contact – although he did get a restart from the rear.
Ben Van Ryt was one of the next to withdraw after banging the fence a couple of times and then parking the 75 after a few laps.
Kendrick was into lapped traffic after just seven laps and there were plenty of drivers banging the wall with the high line pretty close to the fence.
Veal’s night nearly came unstuck when he spun around on lap 15 but managed to keep the W17 going on the bike track, resuming in third spot, only dropping one spot.
Gessner, who started from P6, looked better as the race went on and after trailing team mate Kaiden Manders for a while, used his experience to get into a podium position.
Shaun Bradford, who started from P3, held on for fourth with Manders keeping himself in a good spot by taking fifth.
Mitchell Wormall, who started P4, finished sixth, ahead of Ben Ellement (from P11), Adrian Haywood (from P8), defending champion Luke Dillon (P15), Robert Watson junior (P9), Michael Keen (P10), Jason Pryde (P16), Todd Davis (P17), Tom Hooper (P15) and Daniel Keen (P18).

Gessner was one of the big movers in that heat, moving up six spots to sixth.
There was half a lap between first and second after the second 10-lap heat race was run and won.
