One of Western Australia’s most famous speedway events, the Krikke Boys Shootout will head to the Perth Motorplex on February 18, 2023 to culminate a massive month of Sprintcar Racing in Western Australia after the recent announcement that World Series Sprintcar won’t take place for the 2022-23 season.
The 26th installment of the Krikke Boys Shootout will be held on Saturday February 18, 2023 and honours the memory of Darryl, Jason, Shane and Michael Krikke. Darryl’s father Ron committed to running an event in their memory, and the Krikke Boys Shootout was born.
“We like that it has more of a party atmosphere, and the race goes really well. It has attracted a lot of people over the years.” Said Ron Krikke.
“We are going to run the same sort of deal, the people who go to this race know what the event is about. We will have the same show. The Motorplex runs good events and it will have the ‘enigma’ of the Krikke Boys race.”
Bunbury Speedway has hosted 24 of the 25 previous editions of the event, with the Perth Motorplex hosting the event 2 years ago, but the Krikke family has chosen to continue the event at the Motorplex.
“I couldn’t begin to pick the guys that can win the 35 lap race, especially adding in interstate drivers to the field with the title in town the week before, so I know it’s going to be a ripper event” Krikke said.
With the Perth Motorplex hosting the 60th Australian Sprintcar Championship one week prior, this will give local, interstate and international competitors the chance to race for the $9,500 top prize just one week later and the potential to see Australia #1 in action.
“The Perth Motorplex is proud to be given the opportunity to continue this iconic Sprintcar event on the National calendar,” Said Speedway Racing Manager Gavin Migro.
“To host 5 events in 11 days featuring the best Sprintcar drivers in the country at Australia’s number one dirt track culminating with the Krikke Boys Shootout, where we get to honour the entire Krikke Family and their amazing contribution to the sport of Sprintcar racing is a privilege.”
The event will also feature the WA Limited Sprintcar Title Finale plus other support classes.
