Race fans at Perth Motorplex will get a taste of Pro Stock Motorcycle action at the Nitro Slam thanks to Ryan Learmonth and Tony Hinkley, who will be getting in some testing time in Competition Bike.
Learmonth is eager to go after giving his Suzuki some attention during the off season.
“We have completely stripped the bike down to the bare chassis and rebuilt it,” he said. “There was so much that needed attention after a few years of racing.
“I have welded new brackets on to mount our freshened vacuum pump which should increase output by a few horsepower as we have also bought a new billet rocker cover.
“We have moved the MSD MC-4 (ignition) to the front of the bike, helping to put weight over the front and shorten a heap of wiring. In the engine department we have had the cylinder head freshened by Gavin Forbes at FME and put a new set of pistons and rings in as the old ones have done over 100 laps.
“I rebuilt the engine a couple of weeks ago and it sounds strong.”
The team have even received some input from an expert more attuned to four wheels – Pro Stock and Nitro Funny Car crew chief Michael Marriott.
“We had Michael give us a few pointers with our Racepak data logger at the last meeting last season so we now have our clutch sensors working. We changed a few things at that meet and went 184mph which shows it’s making good power, we just have to get the first half working.
“We are hoping to run quicker than our PB 7.34 but we will see what the day brings. We can’t wait to get back out there. We have a new motor coming for next year which we will be testing towards the end of the season and that will be exciting.”
Nitro Slam will feature Nitro Funny Cars, X Trial demos, kids entertainment and more in a fun drag racing festival for the whole family.
