Final nominations are now in for the 2018 Di Candilo Steel City Australian 360ci Sprintcar Championship at the Perth Motorplex with a total of 37 drivers ready to compete for the National crown. Among the field is a small South Australian contingent who are set for the long haul across the Nullarbor including the 2014 Australian Champion Chad Ely.

Last season Ely finished fourth in the A-Main after transferring via the B-Main in a stunning drive in the Diamond Bay Motorsports #26 but this year the current South Australian Champion will compete in his familiar #22. Ely will be joined by team mate Jed Bell in his #18 J&J, who will be making his Perth Motorplex debut.

Former South Australian Champion Dan Evans will also make the trip west and he will be full of confidence after a strong season competing in the 360ci Allstars Series across Victoria and South Australia with a season best result of second coming last weekend at the Timmis Speedway at Mildura last weekend. The Remark based team will make quite an impact with their impressive hauler and beautifully prepared Maxim race car.

The final team that will represent South Australia is the Gates Motorsport Team with their charismatic driver Tregan “Trigga” Gates in the beautiful #5 Maxim. Recently Gates has been splitting his time between 360ci and open racing and he will be hoping for a strong result in his Western Australian debut.

“Our season didn’t get off to the start we had hoped for but we knuckled down mid-season and tried to push for some better results and we achieved that in the 360. I had my first drive in the 410 during Speedweek which went really well and we ran another club show a couple of weeks later and picked up a top 10” added Gates as we spoke recently.

“We’re only a small Adelaide based team pushing for some bigger results, hence the trip to Perth for the title. It’s an honour to be racing for my Mum and Dad in the family car. We wouldn’t be out on the road without the support from my sponsors and crew. I am really looking forward to racing at the Title at the Motorplex. I cant wait” he added in an excited manner.
