Well it has to be said we have been pretty lucky when it comes to our drag racing track championship and the weather, but Mother Nature had some other ideas on April 11.
It was a stop and start kind of day as the rain came down, the track was dried and the racing begun – before a case of wash, rinse, repeat!
Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Perth Motorplex track team and our racers hustling through the staging lanes we were able to make it as far as the first round of eliminations for some brackets but for the majority it was all over after qualifying.
The track crew bravely tried to get the track up to racing spec after another shower after 5pm but with the sun going down and the heat coming out of the track drying was much more difficult and eventually the hard call had to be made to cancel the event.
Dedicated track photographer Phil Luyer was out doing his best to capture the event between weather fronts, here is some of what he captured!
Alesha Adamos left with the Modified championship, as the building confrontation with Michelle Osborn and Sam Treasure failed to eventuate.
With his round one win in Super Sedan, Martin Mirco had the Super Sedan championship wrapped up regardless of if the event had gone on.
Brett Allen scored his first Modified Bike championship on his Suzuki Katana.
It was great to see Steve McGuinness back on track in his new supercharged flathead front engine dragster. This rail would look great at the Nostalgias, no?
Russell Taylor debuted his schmick Top Alcohol Funny Car. Keep an eye out for this one to make an impact next season.
A shiny, reflective drag strip is often a sign of good traction preparation, but unfortunately on this day it meant the wet stuff!
