One more time, it’s a Williamson win
This weekend will mark the final appearance of the season at the Perth Motorplex for the Speedcars and with seventeen nominations having been received at the time of writing, this should be another great show!
Drivers will also be contesting the final round of the Pool Shop Group Perth Motorplex Track Championship and it is tight at the top of the tree this season! With just one round to go this Saturday night, it is Alfonso Guadagnino who leads ten-time feature winner (in season 2020/21) Tom Payet by just eleven points.
As if this wasn’t close enough, Dan Golding is just eighteen points further back in third, and with 210 points on the line this weekend, it is anyone’s game.
Guadagnino has won a feature this season, as well as scoring five other podium finishes, and is well on the way to his second Track Championship, his first having been in season 2014/15. He knows he will have a battle on his hands to keep Payet behind him, but his consistent performances this season could well be enough to keep him in front.
If Payet is able to grab the feature win this Saturday he will score eleven feature wins in the season, a feat never yet recorded by WASDA. He has been in scintillating form this season and he is a hard one to bet against this weekend.
Dan Golding is another who has had a consistent season, recording no less than five podium finishes as he desperately looks for that elusive first feature race win. If he can break through this Saturday, it will be a massive relief for the likeable Golding and it could well elevate him in the overall points standings.
Kaiden Manders is back in the field aboard the Graham Jones Racing #4 machine and after winning his car owners namesake event last time out, he will be full of confidence and looking to repeat those efforts.
All the regulars are also in the field, with names like Travis White, Rob Golding, Vaughan Manders and Ross Heywood amongst others nominated, while the rookie contingent is also in full swing, with six nominated.
Excitingly, of those six there is a brand-new driver stepping in for this weekend, with regular Sprintcar competitor Tom Callaghan jumping aboard the ASteel Racing #30 machine normally driven by Keenan Fleming. Still out with an injury, Keenan is keen to work with Callaghan and he could well surprise some of the more experienced competitors on Saturday night.
It is a massive two nights of racing this weekend at the Motorplex, with Speedcars only racing the Saturday, but racing beginning at 3.30pm! Speedcars will get the standard two heats and a feature to round out the season, so make sure you get there early and save your seat because it is going to be off the hook!
