Top Fuel Motorcycle will bring exciting two-wheeled nitro-burning action to this weekend’s Electrical Training Group Drag Racing Grand Final event at the Perth Motorplex (April 8-9).
The bracket, sponsored by Dragon Bikes, will be doing battle not only for the national-level Australian Drag Racing Championship (ADRC) but also the WA Drag Racing Championship this Friday and Saturday.
The TFM racers will be joined on-track by a host of other thrilling racing brackets, including the Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship, the popular Top Doorslammers, and more than 150 sportsman competitors.
“Top Fuel Motorcycle is a tough bracket to be in and is at the cutting edge of motorcycle drag racing,” Dragon Bikes Director, Clyde Carstairs, said.
“These bikes are the fastest motorcycles in the world and those that compete in this class are highly committed – to start with, a new TFM ready to race with no spares will cost $250,000 and just the ongoing maintenance requirements would put off most people!
“If you wanted to compare it to aircraft maintenance, a small light aircraft requires about one hour of maintenance for each 10 hours of operation while a helicopter requires five hours of maintenance per one hour of operation.
“A Top Fuel Motorcycle on the other hand requires 40 hours of maintenance per each single minute of operation, and that’s providing you don’t break anything, which you will!
“It truly is a unique category and my passion for it extends past the technical innovation of how you get a 2,000-horsepower motorcycle down the race track to the perseverance of the owners and operators.
“Racing these motorcycles can take you from the greatest highs to the lowest lows in milliseconds and I think the way racers keep coming back is inspirational – if there was a university degree in perseverance, they should study Top Fuel Motorcycle racers!
“For all these reasons and more, I am pleased to announce that we plan to extend our sponsorship of this incredible bracket until the end of the 2024 season and show my support of this bracket to my customers and after a great season so far, I can’t wait to see the performances on-track this weekend for the Grand Finals.”
