For the nineteenth time in history, this weekend will see the Scardifields Smash Repairs King of Kwinana held for Formula 500’s and with only one former winner in the field, could we see a new King (or Queen!) crowned?
Matt Brown is the one driver who has been atop the throne before, having won the event a total of three times previously, but his last win in the event was way back in 2007/08, some eleven years ago. Of course, Brown has been in scintillating form recently, after having some time off he took out the WA Title and just last weekend claimed the feature race in Collie, so is certainly a favorite to take out his fourth crown.
Chris Dymock has had a lot of success at the Kwinana venue but has never claimed the crown previously. His father Wayne did, back in the 2006/07 season so bouncing back after a DNF last weekend would be made all the more sweeter by claiming this weekend’s feature for the younger Dymock.
Cody Turacchio became a new father during the week (Congratulations to him and mother Tegan!) and would love to welcome Jett into the world with a win while Uncle Todd Broadwood would also love to take his new nephew home a trophy in his first run for the season!
Speaking of families and both the McKenzie brothers in Cameron and Jye from Busselton and Narrogin’s Nardini brothers in Jamie and Luke will also be in this weekend’s field and hopeful of a better run than last weekend. Three of the four didn’t finish the feature, while Luke claimed a podium finish and would love to improve to take home the win.
Ryan Higgs was also on the podium last weekend and will look to continue that strong form. He did some practice laps tonight at the Motorplex to get the car dialed in and could be a real threat on the weekend while Glenn Carstairs will be hoping to bounce back after a roll over in his last meeting and get back on top of the podium as he did in the season opener here at the Motorplex a few weekends ago.
Matthew Edwards will be hoping much the same after a disappointing DNS began his West Coast Series season.
The only driver who won’t be crowned King is Lizz Plummer who will be fighting to be the first ever Queen of Kwinana! In what will be her first event for a fair while, Plummer would love to take it up to the boys and show them who really should be sitting atop the throne come feature time!
It is sure to be another exciting event this weekend and with the Formula 500’s scheduled to be the first race on the program at 5pm, make sure you get there early!
