The precision world of moto trials will be on display at Perth Motorplex as part of Nitro Slam with a three part exhibition from the Nolan Brothers throughout the night.
The first display will be a BMX trial demo at 5.40pm as a curtain raiser, but don’t miss their night time shows including the awesome mini backflip! The display is part of the lead up to the X Trial Australian Championships, to be held at HBF Stadium on February 18.
The two brothers were born and raised in Perth but have taken their trials skills across the world.
Lewis and Alex Nolan began their journey in the world of motorcycling at around about the age of five, starting out on Peewee 50s. They trained hard and slowly progressed their way up through the sport, competing overseas in big name events such as World and European Championships, even being selected to represent Australia in the Trial Des Nations.
The boys eventually grew tired of competition and this traditional style of trials riding, so began to look for thrills in other bike sports such as freestyle BMX and motocross, which eventually led them to where they are today – semi professionals in their chosen sport of FreeTrial.
FreeTrial can best be summed up as the motorcycling equivalent of street skate/BMX. It involves a combination of traditional trials techniques along with BMX, stunt riding and even a little FMX.
“FreeTrial is all about creativity, anything you see could possibly be an obstacle or something to pull a trick off,” Lewis said. “We’re riding these bikes in places most people (especially in Australia) would never even think you would be able to take a motorcycle…it’s almost an art.”
“FreeTrial comes with risks,” says Alex. “We are riding these bikes in urban places you’re not often allowed to ride bikes. Sometimes location checks, vigilantes etc are necessary to find out the best times to hit spots, but thats just all part of the thrill!”
The boys currently travel Australia performing stunt shows on their trial bikes at high profile events such as the Australian MotoGP, Formula 1 Australian GP, V8 Supercar Championships, Sydney Royal Easter Show, Brisbane Ekka, Luna Park Sydney and even making an appearance on the Australia’s Got Talent TV show.
